چکیده

Computed tomography (CT) has had a massive impact on diagnostic radiology over the past few decades. Serious concerns exist because of increase in effective radiation dose associated with CT scans, which could pose significant health risks. In CT, can be estimated by Monte Carlo simulations. The aim study was to estimate and compare doses for from organ dose-based calculations using tissue weighting factors International Commission Radiological Protection publications (ICRP 60, 103), CT-Expo v2.6, dose-length product (DLP)-based estimates. For 165 (Ed) most common routine radiological investigations were assessed. There 112 male patients (68%) 53 female (32%). When compared estimates, DLP-based estimates produced applying ICRP 60 coefficients less than 55–57% (head) more 18.1% (chest) 20% (abdomen). 103 values Ed 79% 17% (chest), they changed randomly abdomen. CT-Expo, lower 54% (head), 6% (abdomen), 2% Effective calculated tissue-weighting comparable differ greatly an average 2.3, 2.9, 4.5 mSv head, chest, abdomen, respectively. conclusion, all are subject biases inflicted assumptions methods used; therefore, no agreement should expected. reason evaluating is make point that ICRP’s update indeed accurate. variability use various methodologies scans shown this study.

Thorax organ dose estimation in computed tomography based on patient CT data using Monte Carlo simulation

Background:  This study presents patient specific and organ dose estimation in computed tomography (CT) imaging of thorax directly from patient CT image using Monte Carlo simulation.  Patient's CT image is considered as the patient specific phantom and the best representative of patient physical index in order to calculate specific organ dose. Materials and Methods: EGSnrc /BEAMnr...

Evaluation of Organ Specific peripheral dose for Gamma knife 4C based on Monte Carlo

Introduction: Stereotactic Gamma Knife radiosurgery has been widely used for treating brain tumors. The scattered radiation outside of treatment field (peripheral dose) can induce the secondary cancer to specific organ. This paper investigated the absorbed dose to eyes, thyroid, heart, lung, breast and colon using a Monte Carlo technique for Mird phantom. We also study the ef...

Radial dose functions of GZP6 intracavitary brachytherapy 60Co sources: treatment planning system versus Monte Carlo calculations

Background: The Monte Carlo (MC) method is not only used for dose calculations around brachytherapy sources but also for benchmarking treatment planning systems (TPS) calculations. Materials and Methods: Three 60Co sources of GZP6 brachytherapy unit were simulated using MCNP4C MC Code. The radial dose functions were calculated by MC method and GZP6 TPS and were compared. Results: There was a go...

Measurement of organ dose in chest CT examination using Monte Carlo simulation

Background: Exposure conditions in CT examinations are quite different from conventional Xray. In CT examination higher dose is given to patient in comparison with the dose in other diagnostic examinations. In order to calculate organ effective dose in chest CT, Monte Carlo simulation has been used in this study. Materials and Methods: The Impact survey data were used to determine the ...

Organ and effective dose arising from conventional diagnostic X-ray examinations by Monte Carlo simulation (MCNP-4C Code)

ABSTRACTBackground: Monte Carlo simulation has been used by many researchers to calculate organ and effective dose of patients arising from conventional X-ray examinations. In this study the radiation transport code, MCNP-4C, has been used to perform Monte Carlo simulations to estimate radiation dose delivered to different organs in conventional X-ray examinations.Material and Methods: In this...
